This delightful, rare gemstone goes by several names- Mossy quartz, rutile or rutilated quartz, moss amethyst (usually including a touch of purple), but it is actually officially lepidochrosite, and isn't it wonderful? Those pretty little mossy flecks in the stone may be several colors- black, brown, red, orange, or purple-red, and give the stone its own unique look! Here it's cut into slices that really show off the delicate sprinkling of color.
